Learn to meditate. The 3 Things You Need To Know.

Let me begin by saying there are so many myths around meditation. It’s not hard. It’s actually quite easy and probably a lot easier than you think. Unfortunately there is a lot of misleading information that turns people off to it completely. So I’m here to help give you deeper clarity about what it is and how understanding and applying these three simple techniques can make it a beautiful practice you look forward to and can really get into versus an intimidating thing that you run from.

Learn To Meditate With These 3 Tips For Beginners

  1. Expect Nothing – Don’t have any expectations – Expect Nothing. This is the really profound and also very difficult thing for most people to grasp. We live with expectations. Each and every moment is filled with an expectation of this moment. Each moment is filled with hope and deep seated conviction of how it should be. Rather than just letting it be. We are not comfortable with this moment as it is so we long for more. We want more out of this moment. We want more from the past so we hark back to it over and over again. We are driven by some potential future outcome. It’s never just this moment now being totally perfect as it is. That’s the power of meditation. It’s the premise that this moment is absolutely perfect as it is with no outcome and zero expectation. This is the beauty of meditation. Accepting this moment simply as it is and being completely ok with that.
  2. Do Nothing – There is nothing to do. There are all of these myths around meditation. Most people who have never done it or even those who have perhaps tried it believe it’s too hard. They can’t stop thinking. Or at least that’s the claim. They are unable to control their minds. There is a prevalent belief about meditation or this notion they are supposed to turn their minds off. They can’t turn their minds off. It’s ok. You are not supposed to turn your mind off, nor can you. It’s the nature of the mind to think incessantly.
  3. Be Nothing – Being is the feeling we are going for. It’s possible to be nothing. Simply be. Just be. So essentially you are tapping into yourself and the depths of your existence by honor your being. It’s being in action. You are bringer deeper awareness to your being. You are bringing your attention to that aspect of you that just is. It’s the essence of being that you are tapping into. This is what meditation is all about. Essentially this is the point. It’s to attach yourself to your being where your body, mind and soul and merge into a profound nothingness. Be nothing. Absolutely nothing. Let go of yourself, your body, your attachments. Relinquish your attachment to time.

Another word for meditation is Mindfulness.

While there have been many profound yogis and sages who left incredible bodies of work and instruction and I cannot possibly quote them all. One of my favorites described meditation in this beautiful and poetic way.

“By being with yourself……by watching yourself in your daily life with alert interest, with the intention to understand rather than to judder, in full acceptance of whatever may emerge, because it is there, you encourage the deep to come to the surface and enrich your life and consciousness with its captive energies. This is the great work of awareness’; it removes obstacles and releases energies by understanding the nature of life and mind. Intelligence is the door to freedom and alert attention is the mother of intelligence.” Nisargadatta Maharaj, I Am That
