My 3 Favorite Insights From The Episode
- “It wasn’t as if there was this lightning moment epiphany where I accepted and allowed help. There was a very gradual progression of allowing that to happen. I talk about it in the book about having a community of mentors and building a moat of mentors around you. And I think mentors can be defined in many different ways. The way that I’ve defined it for myself is that a mentor can be somebody that’s dead or alive. It can be a mentor can be your favorite author, your favorite YouTube personality, somebody that you follow on social media. It can be a sibling, a parent, a spouse, whatever. There are lots of different mentors.”
- “What do we all have in common? I think what we all have in common is fear as a dominant emotion and looking at the world through a lens that is just colored by fear, which causes us to miss out on so much of life’s beauty and vibrancy and goodness and love. and intimacy with another person. Because the trauma has given us a misconception of what it is to be connected and be with other people when our trust is betrayed and we experience that sort of trauma.”
- “I think that we can heal from our trauma. I don’t know that we ever stop living with the consequence of it though. I think there’s a piece of it that stays with us. And I can say for myself that I have certainly learned how to live with it instead of either ignoring it or pretending it doesn’t exist or diluting myself into thinking that I’m somehow cured. I’ve lived with depression and anxiety for as long as I can remember. What’s changed over the years is my relationship to it, understanding it, and knowing how to better manage it as a result of the consequence of what I grew up with. So For me, it’s about learning how to live with, learning how to manage.”
What Are Tips For Sticking With A Self-Betterment Routine
- Set Clear and Achievable Goals: The first step towards sticking to a self-betterment routine is to define clear and achievable goals. Without a clear destination in mind, it’s easy to lose motivation and direction. Start by identifying specific areas of your life that you want to improve, such as physical health, mental well-being, or career growth. Break down these broader goals into smaller, actionable steps. This will allow you to track your progress and experience a sense of accomplishment along the way. Remember to be realistic with your goals, as setting unattainable targets can lead to frustration and demotivation. By setting clear and achievable goals, you’ll have a roadmap to guide your self-betterment journey.
- Establish Consistent Habits and Routines: Consistency is key when it comes to self-betterment. Establishing regular habits and routines is vital for maintaining progress and making lasting changes. Design a daily or weekly schedule that includes dedicated time for your self-improvement activities. This could involve reading books, attending workshops or courses, practicing mindfulness, exercising, or engaging in reflective journaling. By incorporating these activities into your routine, you make them a non-negotiable part of your life. Over time, these consistent efforts will compound and yield remarkable results. Remember, it’s better to start small and build gradually rather than overwhelming yourself with numerous changes at once.
- Stay Accountable and Seek Support: Accountability and support are crucial for staying committed to your self-betterment routine. Find an accountability partner or join a community of like-minded individuals who share similar goals. This could be a close friend, a mentor, or an online group. Share your progress, challenges, and insights with them regularly. Their encouragement, feedback, and shared experiences can provide the necessary motivation to keep pushing forward. Additionally, consider tracking your progress and celebrating milestones along the way. By acknowledging and celebrating your achievements, you reinforce positive behaviors and inspire yourself to continue on your journey of self-betterment.
