Nature According To Transcendentalists

According to the transcendentalists nature boasts everything we need to live happy and whole.

Here I’d like to consider the transformative power of nature and some things to consider to allow nature to help you be happier and feel whole.

We know that the greatest thinkers and writers were the transcendentalists and they always spoke poetically and prophetically about nature. What is it about Nature that pulls us in? Has us yearning and longing to be there, sit there, idle there and for those of us on any kind of soul journey, reflect there? How is it that we become so enraptured in it? Is it simply it’s beauty or is it that the beauty is so majestic we are so taken by it? Or is there more to it? Is there a cosmic pull to all of the aliveness of it all? The chi of it all.

Eco Psychology | Nature Impacts Our Well Being

Nature according to the transcendentalists entailed so many aspects of it.

We have terms like eco psychology based on this very theory – the idea that nature has an impact on our mental state, a positive one at that and is good for our well being.

120 minutes of nature a week, two hours is what takes according to a study of 20,000 people showed this was the magic bullet for feeling better, scientifically speaking.

Anything less than had no impact. Sounds strange, but these are the findings from the European Centre for Environment & Human Health at the University of Exeter. You can break it up in small doses of nature throughout the week or you can take it in a lump sum – one and done, but 2 hours is the number that has substantiated wellness.

Nature Deficit Disorder

There’s even a thing called Nature Deficit Disorder. Yep. You guessed it. This is for those who are deprived in some way of that hardly hearty 2 hours a week.

2 hours in nature is a walk in the park for me. No pun intended, but nature is my happy place and in any given week I might’ve spent upwards of 4-5 hours in some green space doing some serious reflecting. So let me ask you? What does nature do for you?

All of these powerful quotes on Nature, such profound and prophetic displays of affection for the majesty and wonderment of Nature. Everytime I step into Nature, get near a river, body of water, bundle of clouds, near the sea, deep in the forest I feel and sense magic. Do you?

The Greatest Nature Quotes By The Transcendentalists

And there are the profound quotes – some of my favorites from the greatest transcendental writers…

“An early-morning walk is a blessing for the whole day.” Henry David Thoreau

“Every morning was a cheerful invitation to make my life of equal simplicity, and I may say innocence, with Nature herself.” Henry David Thoreau – Here is my favorite read from Henry David Thoreau.

“I believe that there is a subtle magnetism in Nature, which, if we unconsciously yield to it, will direct us aright.” Henry David Thoreau

“Nature is sanative, refining, elevating. How cunningly she hides every wrinkle of her inconceivable antiquity under roses, and violets, and morning dew! Every inch of the mountains is scarred by unimaginable convulsions, yet the new day is purple with the bloom of youth and love.” Ralph Waldo Emerson – My absolute favorite work by Ralph Waldo Emerson – a great read, worth the time.

“In the presence of nature, a wild delight runs through the man, in spite of real sorrows. Nature says, he is my creature, and maugre all his impertinent griefs, he shall be glad with me.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

“The happiest man is he who learns from nature the lesson of worship.” Ralph Waldo Emerson “Adopt the pace of nature; her secret is patience.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

“May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.” Edward Abbey – A fine work by Abbey that I’d say you’d quite enjoy.

“Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books.” John Lubbock

“Everything you can imagine, nature has already created.” Albert Einstein

“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.” Navajo Proverb

“The human spirit needs places where nature has not been re arranged by the hand of man.” Unknown

“I believe in God, only I spell it Nature.” Frank Lloyd Wright – A book you will not be sorry you read.

“In the hopes of reaching the moon, men fail to see the flowers that blossom at their feet.” Albert Schweitzer

“Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” Lao Tzu

“Nature never did betray the heart that loved her.” William Wordsworth

“One touch of nature makes the whole world kin.” William Shakespeare
